First 5 of 200 rows. This is the output of the model solution on the practice database. The task does not fix a sort order, so your rows may come back in a different order.

What you practise

  • Limiting a window to nearby rows with ROWS BETWEEN

MAX OVER rows

Show the step-by-step approach

How the model solution is built, in the order the database evaluates it:

  1. Read from the orders table.
  2. Compute MAX(total) as a window function over the current row and the 6 rows before it, ordered by order_date.

What to watch for

  • Window frames. A ROWS frame counts rows, not time. "6 PRECEDING" is six rows back, which is six days only when there is exactly one row per day.
