Colorado Salary & Paycheck Calculator (2026)

Colorado does something most states do not: it starts from your federal taxable income, the figure after the federal standard deduction, and taxes that at a flat 4.4%. The large federal deduction therefore shelters Colorado income too.

Colorado paychecks also carry a premium for the state's paid family leave program, FAMLI. A single filer earning $60,000 pays $1,931.60 of state income tax and $264.00 of FAMLI premium, and keeps $48,194.40.

Assumptions and what is not covered

This is an estimate of your tax for the year, not of the exact amount your employer will withhold.

Assumptions

  • All income is W-2 wages from one job, earned evenly through the year.
  • You are a full-year resident of the selected state and work there.
  • You take the standard deduction and claim no dependents or tax credits.
  • You are under 65 and not blind (no additional standard deduction).
  • Married filing jointly assumes your spouse has no income of their own.
  • Figures are annual tax liability under the published rate schedules, spread evenly over your pay periods. Actual withholding on a paycheck follows your Form W-4 and can differ.

Known limits for Colorado

  • Colorado can reduce its income tax rate for a year under TABOR after the year ends; this estimate uses the 4.4% rate on the 2026 estimated tax worksheet.
  • Occupational privilege taxes in Aurora, Glendale, Greenwood Village and Sheridan are not included.

Not supported

  • Self-employment income and self-employment tax
  • Itemized deductions, dependents, the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit
  • The deductions for tips, overtime and seniors, and investment or retirement income
  • Part-year residents, and people who live in one state and work in another

Rules used

  • Federal: version US-2026.1, in effect January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026, last verified October 10, 2026.
  • Colorado: version US-CO-2026.1, last verified October 10, 2026.

FAMLI premiums

The employee share for 2026 is 0.44% of wages up to the Social Security wage base of $184,500. Some employers pay it on their employees' behalf, in which case your take-home is higher than this estimate.

Working in Denver

Denver charges an occupational privilege tax of $5.75 for each month you earn at least $500 working in the city. It depends on where you work, not where you live. Select "I work in Denver" in the calculator to include it.

Aurora, Glendale, Greenwood Village and Sheridan have similar head taxes that are not included.

High earners: the deduction addback

From 2026, a filer whose adjusted gross income is above $300,000 must add back most of the federal standard deduction: everything above $1,000 for a single filer or $2,000 for a joint return. The calculator applies this automatically.

Federal taxes on a Colorado paycheck

Federal rules are the same in every state. For 2026 the standard deduction is $16,100 for single filers and $32,200 for married couples filing jointly. Social Security is 6.2% of wages up to $184,500, and Medicare is 1.45% of all wages. The US salary calculator page explains the federal brackets and the difference between marginal and effective rates.
